Seniors Have A Choice Of More Joy In Their Lives Or Not.

If you take a moment to reflect there are basically three kinds of people:

1.) People who are positive and are optimistic. They generally are “happy.”

2.) People who are negative and are pessimistic. They generally are “unhappy, sad, mad and often complain a lot.”

3.) People who are quiet. We often don’t know how they are feeling. Sometimes they do not know either.

What is joy, happiness, positive outlook anyway?

The dictionary says:

joy/joi/

Noun:
  1. A feeling of great pleasure and happiness.
  2. A thing that causes joy.

delight – gladness – pleasure – mirth – rejoicing

Looking at Plutchik’s 32 Emotions we see Joy next to other Positive emotions. Sadness is on the opposite side with other Negative emotions.

Many say gratitude is the root of joy.

Spiritual people say JOY is gift from God.

Most realize that happiness is fleeting and mostly a cause and effect from outside events, people, and things. It is conditional and soon evaporates.

Some people remain “stuck” in complain mode most of their adult lives. It would feel wierd to not complain about most things. A question one must ask…Is this helpful? Is doing so worth the cost?

Most would say no. Help me please to change. I would like to be able to express myself and feel a inner sense of peace and joy.

We find the act of laughing without reason causes the feeling of joy. It is based on the fact that laughing helps the pituitary gland produce the “feel good” neouro-peptide called serotonin that makes us feel better.

Laughter Yoga Helps Depressed Elderly Women and Increases Life Satisfaction

Laughter Yoga is at least as effective as group exercise program in improvement of depression and life satisfaction of elderly depressed women.

Objective:

The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Kataria’s Laughter Yoga and group exercise therapy in decreasing depression and increasing life satisfaction in older adult women of a cultural community of Tehran, Iran.

Results:

Sixty subjects completed the study. The analysis revealed a significant difference in decrease in depression scores of both Laughter Yoga and exercise therapy group in comparison to the control group. The increase in life satisfaction of Laughter Yoga group showed significant difference in comparison with the control group.

Conclusion:

Laughter Yoga is at least as effective as group exercise program in improvement of depression and life satisfaction of elderly depressed women. © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
